Retirement requires developing a financial plan for the future and making decisions about how to best manage your assets going forward. Some of my clients choose to relocate to less expensive parts of the country so their financial resources stretch further. Others decide to downsize their dwelling and look for a home that's all on one floor.
Clients who have been career oriented sometimes find the unstructured time in retirement, difficult. They use our coaching sessions to explore new interests and sources of fulfillment. Sometimes this means enrolling in a class, joining a club or learning a new skill. Frequently, old friends have moved away, pursuing their own retirement dreams. This might call for engagement in activities that bring new people into your life. For many retirees, relationships with grand children are a new source of pleasure.
Sometimes finding part time work becomes important both financially and socially. But this requires a shift from building a career to finding work that's meaningful or fun.
Retirement can be a phase of life that's exciting and fulfilling, allowing you to spend time pursuing hobbies you may have left behind. Often, I ask clients to write out a plan for their ideal life. Then we begin planning how to make this happen.
